INVEST IN THE DURHAM MINERS GALA

The 138th Durham Miners Gala - Saturday 13 July 2024

Dear friends

Forty years on from the Miners' Strike, the collieries may be gone but the Gala remains. It has not just survived, but is thriving again. The Gala is the world's greatest display of trade union and community solidarity. It is of vital importance to the movement.

On the second Saturday in July, more than 200,000 people pack the streets of Durham alongside more than 60 Durham Miners banners, more than 50 bands and over 100 trade union banners form across the country and beyond. It is a source of strength and inspiration for us all. It raises our spirits and demonstrates our unity and is where the young are welcomed into the trade union family.

It was the solidarity of our communities and the wider movement that sustained the strike for a year. It is solidarity that will enable us to overcome the struggles of today. It is solidarity that sustains the Gala.

We ask you, in this 40th anniversary year, of the 1984-85 Miners Strike to show your solidarity and invest in the Durham Miners Gala.

See below for ways you can chip and give your support. Many thanks in anticipation for your help.

Solidarity forever!
